Brittiany Mabery-Niblack

Brittiany first heard of New Haven Works when working with a canvassing committee. She was laid off from her job in November of 2018 and joined the program in December. New Haven Works presented Brittiany to Yale Univesity’s Staffing department through a monthly event called a “Meet & Greet.” There, she received valuable feedback from Yale recruiters that she and her Job Coach quickly applied to strengthen her candidacy. She was able to obtain temporary employment with Yale University by February 2019. Brittiany was ecstatic that the process worked so quickly for her. In April, Brittiany started a second temporary assignment at the Yale Health Plan as a Clinical Receptionist. Brittiany was able to excel in that position. Her supervisor was so impressed with her that when a permanent opportunity arose, she encouraged Brittiany to apply. Brittiany is now a full-time permanent employee of Yale and a proud Local 34 member.

“When you first enter the New Haven Works program, you may think you know everything about the application process. However, no matter how much experience you have, there is always room for growth. And that’s what New Haven Works relayed to me when I joined. They helped me with my resume; they exposed me to Yale University recruiters; they coached me on what to wear; they reinforced techniques of self-marketing and presentation; they helped me prepare cover and thank you letters. Before they actually submit your candidacy to an employer, they make sure you’re ready.”
